Tender Mercies is 1983 American drama film directed by Bruce Beresford. The screenplay by Horton Foote focuses on Mac Sledge, a recovering alcoholic country music singer who seeks to turn his life around through his relationship with a young woman and her son in rural Texas. The film encompasses several themes, including the importance of love and family, the possibility of spiritual resurrection amid death and the concept of redemption through Mac Sledge's conversion to Christianity. ValleyCAST, in collaboration with the Ayer Film Society, is diversifying their community building endeavors in and through a feature length film series. These movie events will include a discussion after each screening. They are free and open to the general public and offer inclusive opportunities for Whitinsville and surrounding communities to engage in cinematic shared experiences. The public will view films of consistently high quality once a month in an inviting and welcoming setting. Films designed to promote knowledge of and appreciation for cinema as an art form will be screened. The discussions that follow the movie presentations stand to enhance participants' film experience and promote community at the same time. Presented by special arrangement with Swank Motion Pictures.
