Workshop Title
Building Birdhouses: A Community Art Installation with NESA Artist, Lynn Simmons
Description
While birdhouses provide a sanctuary and home for birds, they can also create communities in the way they are made and used. In this workshop, we will come together as a community to create an outdoor collaborative art installation. Each participant will make a birdhouse and then all of the birdhouses from the workshop will be installed together as one piece of art at the Alternatives' Whitin Mill for the community to enjoy.
We will explore themes of home, community, sustainability, as well as ensure that the birdhouses will attract birds to use them. Pieces of wood will be pre-cut, then assembled and painted by participants. Small found objects can also be attached to the outside of the birdhouses such as small stones and buttons.
Teaching Artist
Lynn Simmons is a Massachusetts-based sculptor and educator and a member of the New England Sculptor Association (NESA).
