INFORMAL
INFORM - FORM - FORMAL
with Michael Bourque, Nathan Bourque, Madeleine Lord, and Derrick Te Paske
Two painters, a father and son, a wood sculptor and a metal sculptor have exhibited their distinct works together in the past, and in doing so discovered how they share varied degrees of the same intent, rigor and influence. Though completely different results for each, when together they appear to be related.
Artists' Reception on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 - This event coincides with the Free Summer Concert Series Kick-Off event in the plaza at the same location, so you can enjoy meeting the artists and seeing their work and then wander outside for some live music at the same time!
Michael Bourque’s paintings start with a design of geometric forms, are detailed with a formal color theory pallet, and finished with informal smears of impasto paint.
Nathan Bourque (1984-2025) defied the restrictions of a being a quadriplegic, painted intricate abstracts with brushes, cups or other implements taped to his hands. A miracle of formal design meticulously and energetically created from an informal process.
Derrick Te Paske’s sculptures are pure form, often inform the viewer as homages to prehistoric art and may finish with informal décor like the thousands of burned sperm on the surface or pointed brads like sharks’ teeth interior to his sex pots.
Madeleine Lord’s works start out as informal as it gets, in the metal dump. Her welded figures and abstracts are composed with formal drawing intent, and the final dimensional forms have classic overtones.
This exhibit ends on August 20, 2026
