A sample of finished palettes from the 3rd Annual Art Palette Contest

Has your creativity been cooped up this winter? Alternatives and its arts and culture subsidiary, ValleyCAST (Blackstone Valley Culture, Art, Science Together) have just the thing to get your artistic side stretching its legs. Both the 4th Annual Art Palette Contest and the One Act Play Festival on the Mumford are returning to Alternatives’ Whitin Mill this March – and are seeking participants of all ages and abilities, today.

The Art Palette Contest is an annual event sponsored in partnership with the Artist Palette Studio in Whitinsville. As part of the contest, artists of all ages transform a plain, 16 x 20” wooden art palette into unique works of art. Anything goes when it comes to creating your masterpiece and the use of traditional and unorthodox mediums alike are encouraged.

Palettes can be purchased at Alternatives, 50 Douglas Road in Whitinsville, through February 19. Completed palettes are due back by February 26 and will be part of an exhibit in Alternatives’ Heritage Gallery opening March 4. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Friday the 4th from 4 – 8PM and to vote for their favorite palettes. Winners will receive cash prizes. For more information, visit AlternativesNet.org/event/palettecontest.

If performing arts are more “your thing,” the One Act Play Festival on the Mumford may be the answer. The two-day Festival brings together actors and theater enthusiasts from all walks of life and features comedies, dramas, classics and original works. Plays are judged by experienced members of the theater community and cash prizes are awarded in several categories.

Theater companies and drama clubs are encouraged to submit their one-act to the Festival by Wednesday, February 24. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 at 7PM in the Singh Performance Center, 60 Douglas Rd, Whitinsville. The public is invited to attend a reception in celebration of the event Friday, March 12 from 6 – 7:00PM in Alternatives’ Heritage Gallery, 50 Douglas Rd, Whitinsville.
