Stephen Murphy, the director of training at Worcester human services nonprofit Open Sky Community Services, retired after 38 years on June 30, the Worcester organization announced on Tuesday.
“My career has been a sequence of happy accidents,” Murphy said in a press release. “I landed in a place where I was able to contribute and create my own career path.”
Murphy first began working with The Bridge of Central Massachusetts at the Northborough Community Residence in 1982, the agency’s first program tied to the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health program. The Bridge merged with Alternatives Inc. of Whitinsville in 2018, and there are now 35 DMH programs under Open Sky.
“Steve was one of the first essential team members our organization had,” Open Sky President and CEO Ken Bates said in a statement. “He has helped shape the core values of Open Sky and created national recognition for us in regards to the use of evidence based practices within the mental health field.”
